Alex Fair Jr. Foundation Scholarship

     The Alex Fair Jr. Foundation scholarship is awarded in loving honor of Alex Fair Jr., a man who has a rich legacy of giving of himself to help others. 

     Alex Fair Jr. was an extraordinary baseball and basketball player, as well as an avid sports fan. He was born and raised in Lancaster County, SC.  Alex Fair Jr. attended many of Andrew Jackson basketball, football, volleyball & baseball games, both home and away. He never missed one of his children's games.There was no distance he wouldn’t travel to support them or others. He provided rides to the games for the entire community. You could count on him to be present at every game. For athletes, that continued their athletic career beyond high school, he would provide transportation to their family when called on so that they could attend their college games.

     After receiving his diagnosis of ALS, he was not able to attend many games in person. When he did attend football games, he was granted special permission to sit behind the goal line. Also, he would still provide directions for others. He was the GPS and navigation system for many before they were a common tool. Alex Fair Jr. was the greatest champion against the debilitating disease ALS. ALS impacted his physical mobility, but not his love for sports. He knew every athlete in all sports –tennis, golf, basketball, football  and baseball.  If you ever had the chance to visit him, you would have most likely have seen him watching a game.

     Alex Fair Jr. had the heart of a champion.  Rather than focusing on things he was unable to do, he found joy in things that he was still able to do. He never complained, and he was full of grace along with gratitude. Daily, he captured the very essence of being grateful for what each moment brings. He didn’t want others to feel sorry for him and he found a way to make others laugh. Because of his giving spirit he consistently found other ways to give to others. He stood tall as a giant in his character and strength. He was a true champion and an inspiration to everyone that knew him.

     We salute and honor him for his courage and strength. With this scholarship, we want to continue to honor his legacy providing a $500 scholarship to one male student-athlete and one female student-athlete. Applications are now being accepted.
